Adams, Evangeline.

Astrology for Everyone: What it is and How it Works.

Book

Adams, Evangeline. Astrology for Everyone: What It Is and How It Works. New York: Dodd,
Mead and Company, 1931.
8vo.; cloth; fine.
First edition of a popular and uncommon title, the autobiography of America's then best-known
astrologer. A presentation copy, inscribed on the front endpaper: Inscribed for Edna May Adams
with Christmas greetings, Aunt Evangeline.
Adams was the companion of playwright and suffragette Emma Viola Sheridan Fry in the late
1920s to early 1930s. She was arrested on numerous occasions for fortune-telling, but was never
convicted. Renowned for her stock tips, she advised on various matters Tallulah Bankhead, J.P.
Morgan, Charles Schwab, and Joseph Campbell. Aleister Crowley was an acolyte and reportedly
wrote two of her titles on astrology, but there is no evidence that he had anything to do with this
one.
