Beecher, Isabella) Hooker, John.

Some Reminiscences of a Long Life.

[Beecher, Isabella]. Hooker, John. Some Reminiscences of a Long Life. With a Few Articles on Moral and Social Subjects of Present Interest. Hartford, CT: Belknap & Warfield, 1899.
8vo.; frontispiece portrait of John Hooker; pale green cloth, stamped in gilt; spine lightly frayed, pinhole.
First edition of the nearly 400-page memoir of Beecher's husband, John Hooker, lawyer, social reformer, and woman's suffrage activist. A presentation copy, inscribed: Dr. Charles L. Beach, with the love of his friend, The Author. With authorial corrections to occasional pages throughout.
Many pages in this fascinating memoir deal with the Hookers' involvement with the women's rights movement. There are chapters entitled "The Woman Founders of New England"; "Judge Hunt and the Trial of Susan B. Anthony"; "Woman Suffrage"; "The Progress of Women"; and a particularly amusing one called "Susan B. Anthony's Fiftieth Birthday Party," in which Hooker recounts writing and singing, at his wife's urging, a birthday song on Anthony's behalf.
