First edition of the prospectus for the two-volume findings from the World's Congress of Representative Women, which took place from May 15-21, 1893 . This 30-page document contains black-and-white photographs of the President and Vice-President of the Woman's Branch of the Auxiliary and the eight members of the Committee on a World's Congress of Representative Women, which include Anthony and Rachel Foster Avery.
The World's Congress of Representative Women attracted nearly 200,000 attendees and featured over 600 speakers, and according to the introduction, the writings from this summit are anticipated to be "as regards women…the most remarkable literary production of the Nineteenth Century" (6). The two volumes, published by Rand McNally in 1894, included a condensed statement of the position of women in all countries, and records of each session conducted during the Congress, which covered topics including women's employment, education, religion and philanthropy. The book was offered in two different editions, both reasonably priced so as to "be within the reach of women everywhere" (7). The table of contents for both volumes follows, accompanied by the photographs and a list of the members of the Advisory Council of the World's Congress of Representative Women, drawn from 24 countries around the world. OCLC locates only one other copy.
